Yes, you deserve to relax periodically and consistently to avoid the 'burnt out effect' of the day to day stress factors. Inspite of knowing that, you find it quite difficult to assert yourself and say, 'Hey, i deserve to relax for a while, before I take up next set of chores.'

Why does it become increasingly difficult to relax in a true sense?

The reasons can be many. However, none of the reasons would be more important than you. Give yourself the importance that you deserve and give a priority to relaxation as and when you need.

Address your self-inhibitory beliefs, factors and attitude towards work. Prioritise, plan, execute in a manner where you do not feel stressed out. 
Yes, you can do great things without necessarily getting worked up with the daily stress.

A brief period of relaxation, in between your busy life can be more productive than the hard work you put in under stressful conditions.

You get in touch with the brilliant ideas and also you can have an overview of life when you are truly relaxed.
